Egg Parachutes - The Return

+

Parachutes and Eggs - a dream combination!

A (hopefully no) Smashing group challenge.

You are to design and build a parachute to allow an egg to survive a drop of around 10 metres.

You may not have ANY padding around the base of the egg - the egg will be attached just moments before the drop.

This contest has two phases: 1) The design phase - you may practice as many different versions of your parachute as you like, testing it out using an "egg substitute" (rubber bung).  2) The build phase - all previous designs will be destroyed and you will be given about 40 minutes to build your final parachute before testing.

Reminder:  There will be NO PADDING ALLOWED around the passenger - a normal EGG.  The Parachute will be attached to the egg using a single piece of sticky tape around the middle.

Equipment available

Scissors, glue, sticky tape, string, thin white plastic.

Optional equipment

You may use any other material from home to make your parachute.

You may decorate your parachute as much as you like - there will be a special tasty prize for the best looking.

Judging

The parachutes will be judged on two criteria

1) Does the Egg survive the jump?

2) How long does it take to fall? - longer fall time is better

So if no eggs survive, the longest fall time will win.

Prizes are available
